What is a good book about african american history in the U.S.?

I have to do a book report, and I'm in college. I need to find a book about african americans in U.S. history. It can be social, political, cultural, intellectual, economic, historiography, or foreign relations history. It can also be a biography or autobiography, investigative report, etc. So, if you have read any books about these and is enjoyable to read, or interesting enough to read, please let me know!
