Do the AMD driver updates improve much of your gaming performance anyway?

The reason I ask this is because I have the current factory installed driver for my ati radeon graphics card, the version being Catalyst™ Control Center Version 2009.0918.2132.36825 and I've upgraded my drivers before to the newer version and didn't like that I didn't have a 3D option on the drop down list, or ATI overdrive. I was wondering if upgrading to the newer catalyst drivers like the 10.11 etc would improve gaming performance and would it be noticeable, or would it be fine just sticking with the factory installed drivers?
