In 1984 when this story first appeared in The New Yorker, many readers were shocked and appalled by its disturbing content. Jackson has admitted that she was hoping readers would have this reaction. Referring to themes addressed in "The Lottery," explain her purpose for writing this story. What did she want readers to realize about themselves and the world around them?

Halo 3 or modern warfare 2 more appropriate for my 10 year old?

Of the two halo has less violence directly ociated with a relevent scenario to the world today. It's storyline can be more easily dissociated from reality while Call of Duty depicts blatent kiling of other humans along with a story line that can be difficult to handle emotionally considering MW2's story is loosely based on real world events. Although neither are appropriate for a ten year old in any way halo would be the lesser of two evils in this case. I love the COD franchise and own and play the series but the M (17+) rating is in place for a reason in this case :)

What to do about this girl?

I am 23 and the girl is 14. The thing is that this girl is always touching me for no reason. She was sitting behind me in church and she suddenly touched the back of my neck to see if I was "ticklish". She also touched my arm a couple of times in a playful manner. Many times that she walks around me she pokes me, shoves me playfully, or punches my stomach softly in a playful manner. She also hugs me as a greeting everytime she sees me. Why does she do these things? Does she have a crush on me? If she does, how can I turn her down without hurting her feelings since she is a very nice, friendly girl? It's awkward because she does this in front of people and I don't want people to start thinking things. Give me some advice about this.

Child needs daddy or visa verse?

There is a girl whos 22 years old and was put into a rehab for 2 weeks because she kept threatening suicide. Mom and dad are divorced she lives in her dads apt but dad is remarried and lives nearby. At every visit she promises she is sorry ,she wont commit suicide she was doing it for attention. Now 2 weeks later she is discharged from rehab and back in her apt and dad keeps a close eye on her. Question..Should dad have to move back in with her just because that is what she wants or should he stay at home with his wife and continue to monitor her. The girl comes over to the dads house from time to time but there are other kids living there who are afraid of her addictions and dont like to be around her. She calls him all the time for the silliest things and yes she does get along with the stepmom but cant live with them because she cant be trusted. What would you suggest?
